Burnsville trip

Over the weekend took a trip up to Burnsville lake; Trip went nicely, and caught quite a few fish.  The first night we caught a ton of small catfish on dough bait in the tail-waters  all were about a pound.  The following morning we went up to the dam and fished.  I caught my first good bass of the year-
 Then went on to catch my first spotted bass( got rid of him before any pictures).  Also caught a catfish

Later that day went and caught a nice sucker while Patty and Nic caught some nice Yellow Perch;
And then we went wet-wading, where we caught some very nice brook trout, which ranged about this size;

The next day Nic and I got up and walked along the lake.  Caught some nice Large-mouth on our fly rod (a first for me) and I caught this crappie-

All in all it was a very nice trip!

Mountwood.

Today Nic and I headed out to Mountwood park to fish the lakes unexplored tail waters.  Unsure of where the dam even was, I headed on to Google earth to explore. Soon, I found it to be a small creek exiting the side of a earthen dam built back in the 1960's to create the lake. After hiking the 2 mile trail back to the dam, we both broke into the foodstuff and had a short lunch right there of half a peanut butter sandwich and some lays(very healthy hikin' food isn't it?), but soon continued onward's down the creek.  It is a shallow freestone/tailwater, with some moderately deep holes and quite a few riffles although it does not hold hardly any snags. For anyone not wanting to bushwhack it like we did, you can follow the tomahawk trail near the beginning of the dam, although this doesn't give you very much scenery in the way of water or animals.  Although it did not hold hardly any game fish ( 'Cept Blue-Gill) we both did have our five weights doubled over at one point in time or another. By what you might ask?  By Creek Chubs of course!
Now imagine one as big as a 1 pound bass-
                     -Best Catch of the day.
I on the other hand only managed to catch one about half that size.  All in all though, was quite a trip, the briers are pretty bad back in there right now though, so you will defiantly want to wear a pair of thick jeans and some waterproof shoes.

Nic

Meet Nic.  You may already know Nic, but if not, you will soon enough.  Nic fishes enough to rival me, and he and I are constantly found out on the water.  He also goes to PHS, and ain't too shabby a fisherman.  Nic will be the backup writer for Wading-Abound, and this whole blog is his fault.  It was Nic who taught me how to fly-fish, and put up with countless "crap-casts".

Welcome

Welcome to my blog.  My name is Skyler, and I'm a teen guy in West Virginia.  I come from Missouri, being raised the majority of my life in Springfield.  Though I have always had an outdoor passion, it was in the 5th grade, attending the WOLF program(http://springfieldpublicschoolsmo.org/wolf/index.htm)  that I really found my calling.  Now having started the 9th grade I am a regular fly fisherman, and also enjoy traditional fishing, biking, kayaking, camping, backpacking, and volunteering for the USFWS.
